BOWMAN HYDROFLO CARTRIDGE FILTERS - INSTALLATION
INITIAL STARTING AND PRIMING: -
On a pebbled pool, it is suggested that all loose stones
be swept to a point at the bottom of the pool and removed
prior to initial filling. This will prevent an abnormal
load on the filter cartridge and pump causing damage to
either unit.
First, remove the wing nuts, bolts and clamps from the
lid. Grip the lid "wings", twisting quarter turn
anti clockwise with a light downward pressure until it stops.
Lift Lid.
Grip knob on cartridge top and lift out with a slight rocking,
twisting motion. Make sure rubber lid gasket is well greased.
Leave cartridge out of tank until pump priming procedure
is completed. Replace lid, pushing downward, and rotate
quarter turn clockwise in one gentle motion until it stops.
It is not necessary that the lid be extremely tight as
the rise in internal pressure when the filter is operating
causes the lid to tighten. Position ring halves in relation
to lid "wings" and push together, making sure
underside is engaged. Insert bolts and secure with wing
nuts. Open Air Release valve in lid located next to pressure
gauge and leave open until pump is primed.
To prime the pump for the first time, remove the pump's
hair and lint pot lid, insert a garden hose in the pump
hair and lint pot and allow to flow for several minutes
to make sure pump line is full. Replace pump lid.
NOTE: If pump does not prime within three minutes,
turn off and repeat the priming procedure. Permanent damage
can result by running the pump dry (in an unprimed condition)
for prolonged periods. Should the pump not prime after repeating
the procedure several times, you may have a blocked suction
line, requiring correction before continuing the start-up
process. Should the pump fail to re-prime when turned on,
a leak in the suction piping or a poorly sealed pump hair
and lint pot lid is indicated.
When priming of the pump is finished, water will surge
from air release valve when the tank is full of water, when
this occurs, close off air relief valve. Allow the pump
to run a couple of minutes to clear the pipe lines.
Then, switch off pump. Replace the cartridge, making sure
bottom outlet on cartridge is in full engagement in the
bottom outlet of the filter tank. Do not drop cartridge
into tank, locate hole by spinning cartridge when in the
tank until the cartridge drops in place. Replace the lid,
centring the "spring hold down" in the lid with
the centre located in the cartridge handle. Push lid downward,
rotating clockwise as previously described, securing lid
and clamp rings, making sure clamp rings are in full engagement
under tank neck ring. Open air release valve on lid. Now
switch on the pump to commence the filtering process. Tighten
air valve after all air has been expelled from the tank.
It may require a few days to clear the pool water due to
excessive particles found in the water and loose dust during
construction (cloudy appearance).
Inspect the pressure gauge periodically for increases in
pressure. This is normal the first week of filtering, and
it is suggested that the cartridge be removed and cleaned
as needed until the water clears up.
Frequency of cleaning the cartridge will depend upon bathing
load use and local conditions of airborne debris and weather.
A manual air release valve is furnished with the Hydroflo
to remove entrapped air within the system. The air must
be removed after every cleaning and whenever the pump hair
and lint basket is cleaned.
